Silk is hydrophobic meaning that it is capable of repelling droplets. Silk is a material obtained from the silk moth, a natural fibre to spin it's cocoon. Interestingly, the caterpillar’s gift of silk isn’t just beautiful and hydrophobic, it’s also naturally antiviral, antimicrobial, and antibacterial. What gives silk its many health-promoting qualities may come down to the presence of copper (which comes from silk moths eating copper-rich mulberry leaves). In fact, some research has found that copper in food and supplement form may even offer protection against oxidative damage.
Effective, lightweight and comfortable. Silk is hypoallergenic and inhospitable to dust mites. Perfect for eczema or asthma sufferers.

- WASH THE FACE MASK WITH LUKEWARM WATER
We recommend washing the face mask by hand in lukewarm water. While mulberry silk can be washed in a washing machine, it is a delicate material that can shrink in hot water and be damaged while tumbling in the machine's tub. Washing the mask by hand is easy and can be accomplished in a bathroom or kitchen sink.
- RUB IN SOAP
Next, rub in some soap on the front of the mask. You can use any kind of liquid soap so long as it is a gentle detergent.
- GENTLY WRING OUT WATER
Once you have finished washing the mask, squeeze out excess water between your fingers and thumbs.
- HANG THE FACE MASK TO AIR DRY
To dry the mask, hang it inside your home and leave it to dry in the open air. We recommend not using a clothes dryer as it damages the integrity of the fabric.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU WASH YOUR FACEMASK?
It is recommended that you wash your facemask after each wear. This means that even if you remove your mask for only a moment, you should not put the same mask on and instead use a clean one. Once you take off your mask, you should wash it straight away. Alternatively, if you are not home, you should put your mask in a zip lock bag immediately after taking it off and keep it sealed until you are able to wash it. Check with your local Department of Health for more information as recommendations regarding this may differ depending on the country or region you are from and the severity of COVID 19 in your area.
